The members of my writing group are amazing people. Earlier this month, L.C. Hayden shared her holiday cookie recipe, followed by Kate Michaelson's festive treat.

Today, another member of my writing group, Mary Seifert (pictured), author of the award-winning Katie and Maverick Cozy Mysteries, shares her recipe for a fabulous holiday cookie.

Seifert is a Minnesota girl and has always loved a good mystery, a brain teaser, or a challenge. As a former math teacher, she ties numbers and logic to the mayhem game. Her Katie and Maverick series allows her to share those stories, as well as puzzles, riddles, and a few taste-tested recipes—all of which has garnered her recognition. The Katie and Maverick Cozy Mysteries won the International IMPACT Award for BOOKS IN A SERIES. In addition, Maverick, Movies & Murder was a 2023 finalist for the American Fiction Awards and Santa, Snowflakes and Strychnine was a finalist for the 2024 Chanticleer International Book Award. (See all the books in her series on Amazon.)

Sharing the limelight with Katie throughout the series is her beloved black lab, Maverick. The dog is a reader favorite and helps Katie solve the toughest puzzles. He also loves to slather Katie with sweet, tickling kisses. Seifert says, "While this recipe is called Angel Kisses, it always makes me think of Maverick kisses."

  • Drop rounded teaspoons of mix onto brown paper (or parchment paper).

  • Bake for 25 minutes.

When she's not writing her next mystery in the series (targeted for 2025), Seifert loves to post about her very real and beautiful black lab, as well as events, where she meets her fans. For updates, follow her on Facebook and Instagram. For writing inspiration and motivation, follow her on Threads.
